01. origin

The pilot edition of the LACONA conferences was held in 1995 in Greece promped by the scientific and technological development of the laser ablation application in the conservation of heritage stone. Since then, the LACONA conference series has become a well established tradition bringing together specialists from all around the world every two years.  The past 12 editions took place in Greece (1995), UK (1997), Italy (1999), France (2001), Germany (2003), Austria (2005), Spain (2007), Romania (2009), UK (2011), UAE (2014), Poland (2016), and France (2018).

Short description

What is LACONA?

LAsers in the CONservation of Artworks (LACONA) is an international conference with focus on the advances and cutting-edge laser-based technologies  for diagnostics, monitoring and conservation-restoration of cultural heritage. The aim of LACONA is to gather a wide range of professional fields bringing about productive discussions on new approaches and strategies applying current and novel laser-based techniques for the conservation of cultural heritage.
